Show Preview: Cursive

March 31, 2008

“Bad Sects” from Cursive’s most recent release, Happy Hallow

Ever since the release of The Ugly Organ in 2003, Cursive has persevered to be a major staple in the indie rock scene.  Tim Kasher, a man who has almost experienced everything in the typical touring life, leads the four-piece band into the perfect fit of a venue, The Mill in Iowa City this Friday evening at 7 P.M.  Performing along with them is Capgun Coup if we remember, have already made two appearances in Iowa City last fall with Bright Eyes and Kasher’s side project, The Good Life.  Along with Cursive, a band called The Blacks out of San Francisco will play, and also The Poison Control Center out of good old Ames!

Listen to what people think about their most recent release of Happy Hollow:

“4 stars.” – Spin, Blender, URB, Time Out New York

“Another fiery, sardonic album. Grade: A.” – The Onion

“Kasher has traded such woe-is-me sentiment for a set of more engaging musical arrangements, applying booming gospel voices and Dixieland horns to his band’s spastic art-rock posturing”- Spin

“The Omaha indie band meets the concept-album challenge on its latest, “Happy Hollow,” setting to surging, clamoring rock the saga of racial and religious conflicts in a fictional small town.” – Richard Cromelin, Los Angeles Times

“3.5 stars” – The Rolling Stone
