IOWA CITY, IA – SCOPE Productions has the honor of announcing that Chuck Berry and Rooney will perform at this year’s University of Iowa Homecoming concert, scheduled for September 26, 2008 on the Pentacrest lawn. The concert starts immediately following the conclusion of the Homecoming parade and is free of admission.

Chuck Berry is a music veteran, having achieved a career many artists can only dream of. His guitar skills are superb, and certainly contributed to his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame over 20 years ago. Hailing from St. Louis, MO, this pioneer of rock & roll has attained iconic status, even being named the fifth greatest artist of all time and the sixth greatest guitarist of all time in Rolling Stone magazine. Some of Berry’s top songs include “Johnny B. Goode,” “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Route 66.”

Rooney is a California-based power pop group with an eclectic career thus far, filled with many pop-culture ties.  They have appeared on the hit TV show The O.C. as well as recently having toured with the Jonas Brothers. Rooney’s playful melodies showcase the group’s pension for fun, while still catering to an alternative rock audience. The quintet’s second and most recent album, Calling the World, was well-received by critics and fans alike, featuring hits “When Did Your Heart Go Missing” and “I Should’ve Been After You.”

This will be the fourth year the University of Iowa’s Homecoming concert will take place on the Pentacrest. Last year, SCOPE’s Homecoming lineup featured the pairing of Three Dog Night and Ben Kweller. In 2006, Kansas and Guster graced the stage.
