Show Preview: Wolf Parade at The Englert 11/18

November 16, 2010

Montreal indie rockers Wolf Parade started off on a high note. Their debut album, Apologies to the Queen Mary, was lauded as “inspiring, promising, and wickedly entertaining” and sophomore album, At Mount Zoomer, was repeatedly named the best album of 2008. And even though co-frontmen Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug have been busy with side projects lately (Boeckner with Handsome Furs and Krug with Sunset Rubdown and Swan Lake), their 2010 release, Expo 86, does not fall short. The album is at once upbeat, passionate, and nostalgic; tracks like “What Did My Lover Say? (It Always Had To Go This Way)”and “Yulia” display the band’s trademark driving drums, synths, and guitar riffs, as well as their penchant for laying all emotions out on the table. When promoting the album, both Wolf Parade frontmen said they wanted to create an album that “you can dance to” – and they don’t disappoint.
